On April 16th the Global Security Institute will present the inaugural Alan Cranston Peace Award. The award honors visionary leaders who share Senator Cranston’s (1914-2000) conviction that “nuclear weapons are unworthy of civilization” and who, through their efforts, demonstrate exemplary service in eliminating weapons of terror.
The inaugural Award recipient is Jayantha Dhanapala, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs. Ambassador Dhanapala has for 30 years been steadfast in his dedication to global peace and security and has made countless contributions in strengthening the international arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament regime.
Dr. Jane Goodall, primatologist and Global Security Institute advisor, will present the Award to Ambassador Dhanapala before a global gathering of UN Permanent Representatives and Ambassadors, prominent leaders of the disarmament movement, and special invited guests.
