With the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly upon us, the Global Security Institute is primed to take on one of our busiest seasons yet. I’d like to draw your attention to our August 2008 Events Calendar, which you should have received last week. (If you didn’t, let me know.)
I wanted to ensure that you, as a person who shares our goals and vision of the world, received this personal invitation to participate in our upcoming events. I’ve found that when supporters can see GSI in action, when you witness first-hand the unique level of interaction we have with high-level diplomats and other experts in the peace and security community, that you will gain a much deeper understanding of the extraordinary nature of our important work in promoting international cooperation. Indeed, the commitment of some of our staunchest supporters arose after witnessing one of our Middle Power Initiative conferences. Dr. Craig Eisendrath, a former State Department official, wrote: “When I first attended a Middle Powers Initiative conference, I was stunned by the level of participation and by the fact that a non-governmental organization could have such an effect.”
If you cannot attend any of our upcoming UN events, I do hope you check in with us later about future possibilities. It would be ideal for you to witness the next conference in our Article VI Forum series, scheduled for late January in 2009, and hosted by the Government of Germany.
