The issues of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament and the threats posed by nuclear energy have never been so threatening to our survival. Standing for Truth About Radiation (STAR) and Global Security Institute (GSI) educate and organize around critical security issues we face today.
STAR is a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting our health and environment from nuclear dangers. We promote public awareness, scientific research, and greater government and corporate accountability. STAR actively promotes alternative and renewable energy technologies, as the available solution to nuclear power plants.
GSI was founded by the late Senator Alan Cranston who considered it unworthy of civilization to base security on terror, on the threat to annihilate millions of innocent people. Our survival and values require ending the unacceptable risks posed by nuclear weapons. GSI targets influential stakeholders, networks and decision-makers to promote incremental steps that enhance security and lead to the global elimination of nuclear weapons.
We believe that there is a natural synergy in our concerns and that to make our world more secure we must better understand the relationship between nuclear power, nuclear weapons and their dangerous proliferation.
Today, with the world on the brink of war where the use of nuclear weapons has not been ruled out; with nuclear materials inadequately safeguarded; and where nuclear energy plants remain hazardous targets for terrorists, the issues that these two organizations address should be of personal concern and, indeed, passion for us all.
